7/14 - Prison Min. – Restoring Together at Quarry Park
Project Type: Community Outreach
Area and Time: Pendleton from 8:00 AM
Address:
9002 S 650 W
Pendleton, IN 46064
Heartland volunteers will serve at Quarry Park alongside men who are incarcerated in the OSD, or Outside Dormitory, at Pendleton. These men are nearing the end of their sentences and are participating in rehabilitation, vocational, and educational programs such as Toastmasters, Restorative Justice, and the Ownership Spirit program.
🛠️ Project Work:
Volunteers will spend about three hours helping refurbish and beautify the park setting. Work may include power-washing picnic tables and the shelter, light landscaping, general clean-up, and other improvements that help make the park more welcoming for prison staff who use the space.
🤝 Why This Matters:
This is a meaningful hands-on Serve Day opportunity, but it is also deeply relational. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with men who are preparing for life after prison, building relationships through shared work, encouragement, dignity, and hope.
✅ Good Fit For:
Adults 21 and older who are comfortable with outdoor work, physical labor, and serving in a prison ministry environment.
👟 Volunteer Notes:
Please wear work clothes and closed-toe shoes. Bring work gloves if you have them. Additional instructions will be provided before Serve Day.
💙 Why We Serve:
We serve because Jesus taught us to love our neighbors, notice the needs right in front of us, and respond with humble hands and open hearts.
